Manaus, Brasil) Suffered
major fire in a
cargohold containing sodiumdithionite releasing toxic fumes like sulphurdioxide
hydrogensulfide
Main duties:

MT "BAHAMAS"
(oct 1998-march 1999, Rio
Grande do Sul, Brasil) Chemicals tanker loaded with strong sulphuric
acid.
Corrosion of
valves and gaskets resulted in grounding at the discharge quay and causing
pollution threaths. Due to severe corrosion vessels
structure deteriorated
causing the cargo tanks to become tidel and outside water to mix with the acid furthermore emanating toxic
fumes and hydrogen gases.
Main duties: Sampling and acidity-analisis of the
remaining contents of the cargo tanks, hazard control, explosive
gases monitoring, assistance in neutralizing the cargo tank
contents, contact
with local laboratories concerning
pollution, safety advises.

NORDIC"

1997, off Bandar- Imam Khomeiny, Iran) Had
a major engine- room
explosion whilst fully
laden with a highly
volatile, toxic and flammable cargo
Engineroom and pumproom flooded with
noxious and

MV "EVER DECENT"
(aug
1999, Norh Sea off Dover ,Great Britain ) Container vessel collided with
cruise ship resulting in a persisting fire of various containers stuffed with
very
toxic chemicals emanating toxic clouds.

(january
2001, off Cartagena, Spain) Tanker is fully laden with gasoline and
suffered severe cracking of the deckplates of cargo tanks 4ps,
4center, &
4 starboard allowing explosive vapours and liquid
to escape, resulting in an
extremely dangerous operation to salvage the vessel and cargo.

supervisor, flammable gases testing, assisting
in
inert- gas setup,
quality of inertgas
monitoring, safety
advises and assisting in STs & "gas- freeing"
to redeliver the vessel.
MV "HENG SHAN"
( sept 2001,
Manzanillo, Mexico) Cargohold containing
sodium dithionite and
other dangerous
cargoes (manganese silicon, ) caught fire resulting in the emanation of
hydrogengas, hydrogen sulphide and sulpher dioxide
Various "hotspots" in the hold.
Hold dressed up to flood with
inert gas and then inspected.
Main duties: contingency
planning, safety
advises, toxic gases measurements hold inspections, setup & monitoring
the quality of introduced inertgas.
Ro/ro
"JOLLY RUBINO"
(September 2002, stranded off coast St. Lucia
South Africa.) Suffered persisting fire througout the whole
vessel. Carried containers with various chemicals emitting toxic vapours
during and after the fire, further
more threatening
environment
. Hazardous cargo
airlifted to shore.
Main duties:

GAS ROMAN"

leaking The tanktainer contains toxic
cyclohexanethiol Container have been made accessible for
repairs and after repair redeliverd to the manufactures of the fluid

toxic vapours, safety advises, -assistance. Neutralizing spilled mercaptanes.
MT "PANAM SERENA"

Discharging
benzene at Porto Torres pier (Sardinia I), January 2004 suffered
explosions and fire. Remaining
benzene trapped in/at ballasttanks and other locations.
Main duties:
Overall safety supervising, assistance
in STS
of benzene contaminated scavenge water. Assisting
in settingup-, testing and monitoring inert atmospheres in ballast
tanks. Gasfree testing, safety advises and assistance during
"hot work".
MT "CAPE HORN"

With cargo 14,000 tonnes of methanol, had fire and
explosion on board during
mooring manoeuvres at Leghorn (I) (April
2003)
Main duties:
Overall safety supervising, assistance in
STS
of remaining methanol. Gas testing and
monitoring inert atmospheres in the
tanks
Gasfree testing, safety advises and assistance during
"gasfreeing".
VLCC
" TASMAN SPIRIT"

Grounded
at Karachi port entry whilst laden with approx. 60.000 tonnes light
Iranian crude oil (27th juli 2003) In
battling heavy monsoons, the vessel broke in two allowing
highly flammable/explosive vapours to travel over
the deck making further lighterage extremely
dangerous and difficult.
Main
duties: Overall safety supervising during lighterage, assisting in inertgas supplies, inspection of confined spaces
and safety advises.
